WHat Is Soulfire Qi Gong?
SoulFire is for everyone.
SoulFire Qi Gong is not a martial art or a religion, or a belief system. It is an active, experiential, body-mind technology system that has to be carefully cultivated to fully understand what SoulFire is.
The SoulFire system is designed to be practised at the level of focus, strength, and intensity that the practitioner is at. There are no expectations or competitive aims, as this is a ‘self-practice’, a time and space dedicated to moving, tuning, going within, and feeling the true temperament of the person’s essence in the here and now.
SoulFire is a blend of movement with spirit and vigour. The foundations of qi gong come from those ancestral dances around the fire for hunting and celebrating. Qi gong touches our very archetypal nature and is bound to all of humanity’s history and culture. It is moving to be resourceful, to let go of our ‘little’ nature and to, for that moment, become a madness of sublimity and divinity. It is to let go of the patterns that may once have served us, and become what best serves us and our true selves now.
A major part of SoulFire Qi Gong is the potential to rehabilitate the body-mind-spirit complex.
Rehabilitation of mental-emotional and spiritual wounds is important work done by all SoulFire practitioners. We all bear the ‘scars of life’, and how we carry them is the focus of the inner work that we do in SoulFire.
By continuous practise, the body-mind complex builds an inner and outer body that is strong enough to heal wounds and put them in perspective to the current person practising.
The movement aspect of SoulFire is the foundation of the system. It is exercise-based and involves cardiovascular, HIIT, strength, balance, reflex and functional movement pattern training.
There are breathing exercises which revitalise the blood, massage and strengthen the organs, the diaphragm, and the accessory breathing muscles. Breathing is used consciously to reclaim emotional states by intent. Singing, chanting, and changing the rhythm of the breath have been used on Earth by all cultures to improve self-control and wellness.
SoulFire musculoskeletal rehabilitation adopts movement to diagnose instability, pain or weakness in any range of motion. It uses this finding as a key element in individualizing exercises suited to the practitioner’s particular musculoskeletal injuries.
In time, rather than aimless, discordant, and mindless meandering, the SoulFire practitioner develops the ability to stand and move correctly, coordinating posture and breath to develop a commanding strength and presence, while moving with intention. This is the ultimate goal of a SoulFire Qi Gong Master.
